Dolphins Swimming in Cash

An arbitration ruling that ordered Ricky Williams to repay the Miami Dolphins $8.6 million has been upheld by a federal judge. Arguments that the award disregarded Florida law and was excessive were rejected.
Judge James Cohn ruled arbitrator Richard Bloch was "well within the scope of his authority" in his interpretation of the case. Williams breached his contract when he retired suddenly last July.

Not That Close Really

Although the margin was only three points the game really wasn't that tight - you always got the impression that if Philadelphia scored points, then New England would answer with points of their own. The Patriots "played the clock", knew they had the time aspect 'right' towards the end of the game and did just enough to win...again.

History Beckons for Pats

If the Patriots defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX, they'll win their third title in four years and immediately draw comparisons with the great NFL teams. The Cowboys made it three in four years, after the 1992-93 and '95 seasons. The Pittsburgh Steelers won four in six seasons (1974-75, 1978-79) or look at the 49ers with five Super Bowl wins from 1981-94.
How do the Patriots stack up against these dynasties....

"I really feel it's difficult to compare teams from different eras," says Jimmy Johnson who coached the Cowboys to two titles. He says the advent of free agency and the salary cap have weakened teams and made the dominant ones less intimidating than their predecessors. But if the Patriots beat the Eagles:
"I don't think anyone would question that you put them right there with the best ever", says Terry Bradshaw, Pittsburgh's quarterback in those four Super Bowl victories. Click on the title link to bet on Super Bowl XXXIX.

Hard Man Bitten...

Chuck Bednarik will be rooting against the Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday - strange you might ask since he was part of the Super Bowl winning Eagles side in 1960, yet he has no desire to ever see the franchise win another title.
"I can't wait until the Super Bowl is over," said Bednarik,"I hope the 1960 team remains the last one to win. I hope it stays that way."
Bednarik admits he's a little jealous about the salaries of today's players and has had falling outs with Eagles senior management over the years. Bednarik says he'd never made more than $27,000 and had to supplement his salary with an afternoon job selling concrete - hence the nickname "Concrete Charlie." The winning players in Sunday's Bowl will get a bonus that is more than Bednarik used to make in a season
