Maddox Incurs Wrath of Football Fans

Tommy Maddox's and his family have been subjected to abuse since his sub standard showing in the Steelers' 23-17 loss to Jacksonville on Sunday.

"Having your kids deal with it at school and on the bus is ...tough," Vann McElroy, the backup quarterback's agent, told a local Pittsburgh newspaper.

Fans have thrown objects into the Maddox's yard and his two grade-school aged children are being driven to school to protect them from abuse.

Maddox QB threw 3 interceptions, one of which was returned for a 41-yard touchdown in overtime.

Weekend Pro Football: Steelers Lose Players..

Ben Roethlisberger apparently won't be the only important member of the Steelers' offense to be sidelined for Sunday's game against Jacksonville - receiver Hines Ward may be also there.

Roethlisberger resumed practicing on Friday after hyper-extending his knee on Monday night in San Diego. He remains 'doubtful' — which means there is a 25% chance that he will play.

Who'd Be The Number 1 NFL Pick?

The NFL's overall No. 1 pick received a contract worth almost $50 million and got his first start on Sunday for the San Francisco 49ers against the Indianapolis Colts. Alex Smith said he expected a tough game and he proved that statement to be correct.

He threw 4 interceptions, lost a fumble and was sacked five times in a 28-3 loss to the Colts, the NFL's last unbeaten team. He was 9 of 23 passing for under 75 yards.

"No one said this was going to be easy," he said. "I wasn't happy with all the turnovers I had today," he said. "When you turn the ball over, it makes it tougher for your team to win." True.

SF laid their hands on the ball only eleven times and finished their second game in a row without an offensive touchdown.

Green Bay Make Up Points

Without wishing to make light of recent events in New Orleans, the Saints walked in to what was, in football terms, another hurricane on Sunday afternoon as the Packers gave them a 52-3 beating they are not likey to forget for a season or two.

"This game," coach Mike Sherman reflected, "we needed it desperately."

Speaking on the season so far Favre said. "I was getting concerned" and added that another loss would have made it difficult to lift his team at all.

Green Bay are now a poor 1-4 but don't forget that's exactly how things were a year ago before they eventually won their division.
