Horse Race Betting - February '06
This article offers some advice regarding horses that could be worth following in February '06 and could improve in their next races.
TAMPA BAY DOWNS
Kisssastar: Behind by more than fourteen lengths after a half-mile, fanned
six wide in 10th on far turn, closed fast to make up more than 7
.25 lengths in stretch and lost by a head at 1 1/16 miles on a
wet fast surface Jan. 31.
Visions: Chased leaders early in third, dropped back to fourth more
than four lengths behind after a half-mile, came back inside to make up
more than 4.75 lengths in stretch and lost by three-quarters of
a length at six furlongs on Jan. 28.
Storming Thunder: Raced six lengths behind in seventh after a
half-mile, launched rally from fifth in stretch, made up nearly three
lengths and lost by a neck at seven furlongs on Jan. 20.
Toast to Month: Raced three lengths behind in fifth after a half-mile,
fanned five wide on far turn, made up two lengths in stretch and
gained second by a neck at 1 1/16 miles on Jan. 17.
GULFSTREAM
Megapunch: Tracked pace along inside more than 2.5 lengths
behind in third after a half-mile, lost ground angling outside leaders
for drive, made up more than three lengths and was nosed out at six
furlongs on a sealed sloppy surface Feb. 4.
Access Agenda: Bumped, jostled between rivals at break, trailed early,
inched up to 11th more that 11.5 lengths behind after a
half-mile, saved ground into stretch, rallied from sixth along rail,
made up four lengths and lost by a neck and head at 1 1/16 miles on
the turf Jan. 27.
Delmarva: Broke alertly, drifted out on first turn, led by 1.5
lengths after a half-mile, angled back in to increase margin to 2
.5 lengths in stretch, hit rail at eighth pole, drifted back out,
bumped with winner nearing finish line and was nosed out at 1 1/16
miles on Jan. 25.
Zipper Zipper: Broke awkwardly, raced fourth early, dropped back to
fifth more than two lengths behind after a half-mile, steadied in
tight quarters soon after entering turn, rallied from fourth in
stretch and gained second by a length at seven furlongs on Jan. 21.
Spring House: Trailed by more than 14.5 lengths after a
half-mile, swung out in ninth for the drive, closed fast to make up
more than six lengths and lost by a neck at a mile on the turf Jan
21.
Mattingly: Bumped hard by rival at break, raced eighth more than nine
lengths behind after a half-mile, angled out for the drive, closed
fast from fifth to make up four lengths in stretch and gained second
by 1.25 lengths at a mile on Jan. 15.
Hotstufanthensome: Tracked pace 1.5 lengths behind in fourth
after a half-mile, edged up to third after six furlongs, lost ground
three wide entering stretch, rallied from fourth to make up 1.5
lengths and lost by a neck at 1 1/16 miles on the turf Jan. 8.
War Front: Pressed pace along rail early, dropped back from second to
fourth when caught in tight quarters 1.5 lengths behind after a
half-mile, angled out for drive, closed very fast running final
quarter of six furlongs in 22 3/5, made up nearly 2.5 lengths
and lost by a neck on Jan. 7. (Dueled along inside for lead, headed
after a half-mile, came back to draw clear inside the eighth pole, but
couldn't hold off winner and lost by a length at 6.5
furlongs on a good surface Feb. 5.)
Devil's Preacher: Stalked pace in fifth more than 3.5
lengths behind after a half-mile, boxed in on turn, stumbled and
steadied in upper stretch, angled out to close gamely between horses,
made up more than two lengths and lost by a neck at 1 1/16 miles on
the turf Jan. 4.
Cherokee Breeze: Broke slowly, raced seventh early, moved up to fifth
more than three lengths behind after a half-mile, saved ground into
stretch and closed to gain second by a length at a mile on Jan. 16.
(Stalked pace three lengths behind three wide in third after a
half-mile, advanced to second, couldn't catch winner, but held
place by a half-length at 1 1/8 miles on Feb. 6.)
LAUREL PARK
Easy Way: Broke next to last, advanced to 10th more than 20 lengths
behind after a half-mile, advanced steadily to fourth angling out for
drive, made up more than 4.5 lengths in stretch and lost by 1
.5 lengths at a mile on a sealed sloppy surface Feb. 4
Dashing Stream: Raced ninth more than 14.5 lengths behind after
a half-mile, gained ground along rail to seventh heading for home,
swung out six wide in upper stretch, made up for lengths and gained
second by a head at seven furlongs on Jan. 27.
Charming Jim: Raced seventh more than a dozen lengths behind after a
half-mile, trapped behind horses entering stretch, swung out
mid-stretch, rallied from fourth to make up more than four lengths and
gained second by a head at 5.5 furlongs on Jan. 8.
Hello Jerry: Raced sixth early, dropped back to eighth more than 10
.5 lengths behind after a half-mile, swung to six path in
stretch, rallied from seventh to make up more than 3.25 lengths
and gained second by a length at seven furlongs on Jan. 6. (Raced
sixth early, dropped back to seventh more than 3.5 lengths
behind after a half-mile, boxed in leaving three-eighths pole, swung
out wide rallying between rivals leaving eighth pole, made up nearly 3
.5 lengths, dueled for lead and lost by a head at a mile on Jan.
18.)
AQUEDUCT
Champchu: Bumped at break, dropped back from sixth to
seventh more than four lengths behind after a half-mile,
rallied wide from fourth in stretch, made up more than
3.75 lengths and lost by three-quarters of length at six
furlongs on Jan. 28.
Ok to Pay: Chased pace outside in fourth more than five lengths behind
after a half-mile, angled out in stretch, closed fast to make up
nearly 6.5 lengths and lost by a head at six furlongs on Jan.
22.
Compassionate Boy: Broke seventh from the 11th post, raced greenly 11
.5 lengths behind in 11th after a half-mile, came wide into
stretch, closed fast from seventh to make up more than five lengths
and lost by a length at six furlongs on a sealed muddy track Jan. 14.
(Tracked pace three lengths behind in third, advanced to second after
six furlongs, but couldn't close gap on winner and finished 3.25 lengths ahead of third place finisher.)
OAKLAWN PARK
I'majoanietoo: Raced 13 lengths behind in eighth after a
half-mile, came six wide into stretch, rallied from fourth to make up
3.5 lengths and lost by a neck at 1 1/16 miles on Jan. 29.
Gold Pleasure: Broke last, inched up to seventh more than 8.5
lengths behind after a half-mile, rallied through traffic in stretch
from fifth to make up more than 2.25 lengths and gained second
by a length at six furlongs on a sealed sloppy traffic on Jan. 22.
Eishin Illini Now: Pressed pace in third after a half-mile, dropped
back to fifth after six furlongs, rallied four wide into stretch to
make up 2.5 lengths and lost by a neck at 1 1/16 miles on Dec.
14 at Hawthorne. (Raced seven lengths behind in fifth after a
half-mile, moved closer four wide on far turn, made up 2.5
lengths in the stretch and collared leader late to prevail by a neck
at 1 1/16 miles on a good surface Jan. 29.)
PHILADELPHIA PARK
Mr. Snippington: Raced fifth between rivals more than 3.5
lengths behind after a half-mile, fell back on turn, eased out for
drive, rallied from fourth in stretch to make up more than 4.5
lengths and lost by a half-length at 6.5 furlongs on Jan. 29.
Notimetoquit: Saved ground tracking pace in fourth after
three-sixteenths of a mile, blocked, forced to race under steadying
restraint from midway on turn, split foes while advancing from third
in stretch, made up 1.5 lengths and lost by a neck at five
furlongs on Jan. 22.
TURFWAY PARK
Crashing Sandstorm: Raced sixth early, dropped back to seventh more
than 6.5 lengths behind after a half-mile, rallied five wide
into stretch, made up nearly 4.5 lengths and lost by a neck at
6.5 furlongs on Feb. 4.
American Thunder: Trailed early, advanced to fourth to more than four
lengths behind after a half-mile, closed well outside to make up
nearly 3.5 lengths in stretch and lost by a head at six
furlongs on Jan. 28.
Steps: Raced eighth early, steadied in tight quarters, inched up to
fourth after six furlongs, closed fast from third in stretch making up
7.75 lengths and gained second by a neck at 1 1/16 mile on Jan. 22.
Lovetheprospect: Bumped at break, dropped back, raced six lengths
behind in fifth after a half-mile, rallied four wide in fourth in
stretch, made up four lengths and gained second by a nose at 6
.5 furlongs on Jan. 8.
SANTA ANITA
Common Trust: Chased pace in eighth more than 14 lengths behind after
a half-mile, came four wide into stretch, rallied to make up more than
7.5 lengths and lost by a half-length at 6.5 furlongs on
the turf Feb. 4
Sweet Ambition: Chased pace inside more than 11.5 lengths
behind in sixth after a half-mile, came out in stretch, went around a
rival in fourth, closed fast on rail to make up 4.5 lengths and
gained second by a half-length at 6.5 furlongs on Jan. 29
Sublet: Bumped, squeezed back at break, raced 11th early, inched up to
10th more than 4.5 lengths behind after a half-mile, waited in
tight quarters leaving far turn, rallied three deep from sixth in
stretch, made up more than 2.75 lengths and lost second by a
head at 1 1/8 miles on the grass Jan. 21.
Seastate: Hopped at start, raced 10th off rail more than 7.5
lengths behind after a half-mile, came three deep into stretch in
sixth, steadied at sixteenth pole and lost second by a half length at
6.5 furlongs on the turf Jan. 7.
Notre Dame: Off a bit slowly, raced sixth off rail 6.5 lengths
behind after a half-mile, came out in stretch, closed willingly from
fourth to make up two lengths and was nosed out at 6.5 furlongs
on Jan. 5. (Tracked pace along rail more than three lengths behind in
fourth after a half-mile, came out wide in stretch to gain second, but
couldn't catch winner and lost by a length at six furlongs on
